If I connect flights in Atlanta and meet with others in the atrium in between, will I have to check in again?
I am arriving at the Atlanta airport and then taking a second leg to Europe. I will be meeting fellow travellers in the atrium area of the airport which is between the two main terminals. Because I will be arriving at an unknown gate and then entering the atrium, will we have to go through security and check-in all over again to get to our next flight? Should we just meet at one of the concourses to avoid this? Hopefully someone is familiar enough with the airport to answer this. Thank you!

If you are travelling on the same airline, you maybe checked through to your final destination, so you will be permitted to meet with anyone who has passed through security. If you are not on a through ticket, or your bookings are independent you will probably have to go through security/customs, and proceed to the check in area for your european flight.

They need to get into the secured area as depending on the lines, you might have to wait 15 to 30 minutes to get back. Have them buy REFUNDABLE tickets for a flight the day you will be there, and they will get the boarding passes. When you are ready to leave, they can cash in their refundable tickets for a full refund. They should buy them directly from Delta, ad be absolutely certain they are refundable.

You will have all your ticketing for the flight duration. If you leave the concourse area, you will have to return thru airport security so keep your ticket and passport with you. The ATL atrium is outside the secured area. Be sure you have enough time. If not, just meet your party at the gate. However, since this is an international flight, you may not be allowed outside the customs area. You can ask upon arrival, but watch your time.

The Atlanta airport consists of six concourses, A through E (E is international) and T). All of the concourses are within a single securred area. So if you plan to meet your party at an agreed upon location in one of these terminals, you will not leave the secured area and therefore will not have to be rescreened. Concourse T is physically in the main terminal building. All other concourses are actually in separate buildings that are connected via an underground walkway and tram system. I'm not sure what you mean by the "atrium". If you mean the main arrivals/baggage claim area - you definitely don't want to go there! There is, however, an 'atrium-like' area in each of the concourses. This is at the center of the concourse and the point from which escalators to own to the pedestrian mall and tram system. If your party will be traveling together to your international destination, then the place that it would make sense to me to meet would be in the center of the international concourse, concourse E.
