How does a connecting flight work?
I have a flight leaving from the Atlanta airport at 10:59 am and arriving at Philly, PA at 1:06 pm and then I have to get on another flight in Philly to go to my final destination in Providence, RI. I've never had a connecting flight though so what do I need to do when I get to Philly? because I only have 41 minutes to spend there and I wanna make sure I have everything done and I'm on my way to Providence. Thanks everyone.

When you check in you'll get 2 boarding passes 1 for atlanta and 1 for philly. When you get of the plane in philly you just go to the gate that it says on your second boarding pass

Short answer is that when you get to Philly, head to your next gate as quickly as possible. With only 41 minutes, I wouldn't really recommend food or bathroom breaks until you are at your next gate and can verify that you have some time. Pack some snacks so that if you don't have time to get food in Philadelphia you won't be too hungry. Peter is correct that you'll get both boarding passes when you check in at Atlanta, so make sure you hold onto the second boarding pass for Philadelphia. Keep it somewhere relatively handy though, such as a small front pocket of your carry on, so that you can get to it quickly in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, sometimes the gate for the second flight isn't printed on that second boarding pass. Even if it is, the location may have changed, so it's always best to double check when you arrive in Philly. Three options for double checking where the second gate is. 1) As you get close to landing in Philadelphia, ask the flight attendant if they know the gate for your next flight. They often get passenger rosters including information about connecting flights, and may be willing to share this with you. 2) As soon as you get off the plane into the terminal in Philadelphia, ask the agent standing at the desk at that gate. They will be able to look up where your next flight leaves from. 3) Find a bank of monitors showing upcoming departures (listed by destination city) and check where yours is going from. If you have carry-on, simply carry it with you from one flight to the next. If you check luggage, it will be checked all the way through to Providence, so you won't need to deal with that in Philly. Just head straight to your next gate with your carry on!

Plenty of time to get from the gate where you arrive to get to the gate of your next flight. All the numbers etc are well indicated.
