What to do at Atlanta int Airport when you need to wait for 6 hour for your next flight?
I'm flying this summer on Delta from Aruba to Amsterdam via Atlanta. I have a 6 hour waiting time before my flight to Amsterdam. Because i'm travelling alone i don't want to leave the airport to go to downtown. Atlanta is the bussiest airport from what i heard. Are their allot of shops, restaurants and intertainment in the airport?. Are all of these accesable from the delta gates or do i need to go to threw the security checkpoint to get acces to these shops.

they have a bar that allows smoking, at least they did 2 years ago when i spent 2 days (that's right 2 days) waiting on freakin Delta airlines to get their sh!t together and get me home.

All the gates are connected by the train system, so you can go to any terminal and check out all the shops. Also, if you want to go somewhere comfortable you can normally get a day pass at one of the admirals clubs, etc. Lots of time they even offer showers, etc there...plus wifi so you can keep busy if you take your laptop along.

Spent the night there last july, not a whole lot to do at night but looked to be lot's of bars and grill to choose from when open and there were several shops. This place is huge you can ride trains to different terminals without security, when your in AIA your in. You should have no problem entertaining yourself for 6 hours. All night wasn't that bad except for the kids.

If you have a layover in Atlanta...the best thing to do for 6 hours...is prepare for another 6 hours. I have had MANY layovers in Atlanta over the course of 20 years and I can tell you they are notorious for flight delays. I have never gotten out of there on time. If I were you, I would bring things to do. Cards, laptop, a book, mp3, etc. Anything you can think of. Bring extra money to buy food as well. You could be there longer than you expect and you don't want to have to be frugal if you are starving. Good Luck!

Here's another alternative, if you can, fly business class, or use your flying miles, to access the Delta Lounge (or an equivalent depending on its alliance) since many of them remain open 24-hours a day. Since ATL is an international airport, I am presuming their Airline lounges remain open 24/7 (as they do in other MAJOR international airports). Since you'll be in the USA, remember, credit/debit cards are widely used so you shouldn't need to carry LARGE amounts of US dollars while in ATL. If you can access the lounge, you will have food/beverages available, large furniture to nap on, internet service including wi-fi, clean restrooms (sometimes with a shower), and as they do in Asia, a masseuse. Bonus: kids in these areas are better behaved than in other parts of the airport (meaning, less crying/whining). Oh yes, plenty of current reading material is the norm. All services are included in the price of the air ticket. Good Luck!
