connecting flight in Atlanta - 8 hours - worth leaving airport?
is there anything I can do in Atlanta (land at 1.30pm and catch connecting flight at 10pm), or will it take too long to go through immigration and get back into the airport? PS, i havent booked these flights yet, I'm flying from London LHR to Buenos Aires BUE and the cheapest flights i can see are on Delta Airlines via ATL

Knowing Atlanta's airport, if you are scheduled for an 8 hour stopover you will be there for at least 12. Not sure what there is to do but I would avoid Atlanta's airport if you could. Forbes rated it as one of "America's most time draining airports"

I'm told that if your stay is over three hours a trip outside the airport is possible. Not sure if immigration may be a problem though-I don't know if you can leave the airport without a visa. If you can go to the CNN building/Centennial Park. You take the Marta (train), transfer at the 5 Points station, which will be your 7th stop. Then take the West train 1 stop. This will drop you right at the CNN building / Phillips Arena (Atlanta Hawks-basketball play there). Lots of nearby resturants. Plus you can walk around Centennial Park. Estimated travel time is 40-45 mins each way. Bear in mind the Marta schedule and allow enough time to go through security when you get back. Enjoy your trip.

Depends on your interests. There's a new aquarium and SciTek to see, both downtown [about 15 minutes north of the airport], and on the way, you'll see Turner Stadium where the '96 opening ceremonies were held for the Olympics, and the gold-leafed dome of the Capitol on your left. I think it's worth it, yes, with that much time, but I know nothing about immigration at the airport, only about security. 10p will be much less congestion than 1:30p.

Stay at the airport, get drunk, and people watch! Lots of fun! There are some strange lookin birds that go through that airport!
