What are my chances of catching a connecting flight at the Atlanta airport in 1.5 hours?
I've asked this question before but in less detail. I'm flying in to Atlanta this week to arrive at concourse E, then I have to go through immigrations (which can last quite a while), then I have to check out and check-in my luggage before finally heading to concourse A to catch my flight to DC. Can I realistically make this work in 1.5 hours or should I start booking a hotel in Atlanta?

The chances are fair if you are a US citizen and poor if not. It will help if your international flight arrives early or at least on time and there are not too many people in line for Immigration in front of you. Try to select a seat as far forward as possible so you exit the aircraft ahead of the crowd, and don't dawdle on the way to passport control. There are many flights from Atlanta to Washington and the airline will put you on the next flight if you miss the one scheduled. Check with the airline so you know the next-flight options. It does depend a bit on which DC area airport you are flying to. As you know, collect your luggage after passport control (there are carts) and go to the Customs checkpoint. The Customs Officer will almost certainly just wave you through. Interline Baggage is just past Customs and you give your luggage to them for transfer to the next flight (don't really have to "check out and check-in" your luggage - just give the bags to them). If there are 45 minutes or less before your next flight talk to an airline representative before giving your luggage to Interline Baggage. They may need to re-book you on the next flight and re-tag your luggage. There have been airline reps at Interline Baggage every time I have been through ATL. You go through security before exiting the Interneational Arrivals area, so be prepared for that. ATL has a very efficient underground transit system and you can quckley get from E to A. Do check the flight info board at the exit for Terminal E to make sure your DC flight's gate hasn't changed. If you are not a US citizen, you are booked on the last flight to DC, your international flight does not arrive early, and there are lots of people in line for Immigration you will almost certainly spend the night in Atlanta. There are many hotels around ATL with airport shuttles and more reachable via taxi. You shouldn't need a reservation unless you have to stay at a particular hotel. Good luck!

If everything runs ontime and goes as planned you should be fine. Just don't waste time getting from gate to gate. If you miss the connection you can always book a room then.
