Flying is not my favorite thing, but is necessary so could someone tell my why a flight to Atlanta on?
Air Trans Airways non-stop would take about an hour and plus, and the same flights to Atlanta on Delta or Northwest would take 2 hours plus, also non-stop, going for the same price, what is going on with these planes? I would rather be in the air less time, but I've never heard of Air Trans - help I am flying out of Michigan.

OK..it sounds like you are flying just on the east coast. So why the difference with flight times? Different airlines use different sizes of planes that carry more or less passengers. Bigger planes tend to fly faster to destinations. Also some airlines like to figure in some extra wiggle time into the overall flight times (one hour plus versus two hours) so if anything happens for a slight delay in taking off or landing, they can still call the plane ON TIME...which is very important with airlines to be on time. Also Air Trans is a great airline to flym on...no probs here! They are just a smaller regional airline that mostly flies on the East coast. Delta and Northwest tend to be bigger airlines depending on what airport thet are flying into or out. Atlanta is a HUGE Delta airport with many flights in and out of it. As for cost, if all the flights are non-stop or IOW a direct flight, the pricing should be about the same since the airlines are always competing one with another at the same airport. The price also depends on how many of the cheap seats for a flight have been sold and how many of the more expensive seats are still for sale. Don't think too hard on how airlines fix their prices...b/c in truth they don't really even know themselves...Good luck!

If you look at the name Airtran you can google it and get all sorts of info, it is a fine airline. Two possible reasons, Airtran uses a mainline jet while the other airlines have a commuter partner use a regional jet. The RJs are a bit slower. Or perhaps, Airtran has a favorable gate position and there is less taxi time from the gate to the normal takeoff position.

Well it depends on where you are flying from and if it is a non-stop flight, connecting flight or a 1 non-stop flight. AirTran is based out of Atlanta and they are a lowfare airline which I really like alot. Delta and Northwest are of course now one in the same with their merger. The big thing you might want to add to your question is where you are flying out of but my guess would be somewhere either north of Atlanta or west of Atlanta. I would gladly give you more help on this but it is difficult without knowing where you are flying from, especially with the flight times being different. It sounds to me one of the flights is non-stop while the other is possibly a 1 stop flight which is basically non-stop except you stop along the way at another airport and the plane picks up more passengers while some leave and you get to keep your seat and then proceed on to Atlanta afterwards. If it were connecting then you would have to switch planes but it does not sound like that is the case. I hope this helps and have a safe and great trip to Atlanta!

some airlines also pad their schedules the flight is probably only a hour and 1/2 but by saying two hours that way their flight can arrive on-time and not be late and for example I flew LAX to DFW back in March the flight departs LAX 6;00am and arrived at 11:00 (according to the schedule I had tracked that flight for almost a month before my flight 95 % the plane arrived at 10:40 or 10:50am (American had padded their schedule to say 11:00am) (same thing on a return the flight was due lax 11:45 we where 1/2 hour early!) and and thats from East to West!)
